Springtime Blooms

Time flies! It's been 2 weeks since my last post and so much has changed since then. The weather's turned much warmer (we've switched from the heater to the air-conditioner already), and the flowers have all bloomed...

What would you do?

Half way through my salmon and prawn pasta, i noticed that one limb of my fork was missing. Was a little unnerved by it since it's transparent and in the midst of really heavy food. What did i do? I continued eating, kinda in the hope that i'd find it in my food. No luck, i think i ate it, so hopefully its small size helps.

New York Week 2

It's week 2 in New York and I've started work. It really is a different experience altogether, and I now realise why our US counterparts charge (and earn) so much more. At first blush it seems like the environment here is better in every way, but on closer observation, I begin to see the drawbacks as well. I would still love to enjoy the better hours here though.

This was the first time in ages that I managed to have two consecutive full weekends off, and it's a wonderful feeling. I got to get close to the cathedral which the pope visited last Saturday, and the streets were packed full of people --- the faithful, the protesters and, like me, the visitors just passing by.

New York New York

I've been in NYC for 4 days now, and I've just been walking around, getting my bearings.
There is quite a bit of NYC to see, but since I'm going to be here for 3 months, I'm taking it slow. Today I went to Bryant Park, and to my surprise there was an open-air reading room right in the middle of the park, both for adults and for children. It says something about the city and its people, that the books and magazines weren't pocketed by random visitors.

Generating power

When i first saw there windmills at Raffles Place, my first thought was: finally we are doing something right and harnessing the wind from all the hot air blowing around. Too bad there are only toys for some advert (ha! shows you how effective it was) and not real working windmills cos it can really (really!) get quite windy. :)

Feet fish food

Try saying that three times quickly! Lol. A very tickly feeling that is quite amusing to all involved, including innocent bystanders. Hilarious.

Loopy fruits

Had urge for junk food and came across this in the supermarket aisle. Could have sworn that in my day, there weren't so many colours. Lol

Happy Lunar New Year! *squeak!*

I happened to be up and online (despite having to wake up early for mass tomorrow morning!), so we (jeanie, wibblewamble and me) would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

Chinese new year

This, for me, is chinese new year, where my grandma and my mum and her siblings would make cny goodies. Few know the process of making these koboilu, and the various implements used were custom made, and added over time and modified. Example is the stove which is electric and made from industrial grade materials in my uncle's workshop, combined with the traditional charcoal top. We would start from the dawn, and make them til the sun sets.

Sat morning soccer

Good news, i scored a goal! Bad news, i missed 15 other sitters! Worse news, because i'm not as fast as i used to be, ie i'm old!? Worst news, forgetting my age and trying to reach for the ball and getting injured in the process. Sigh

Mushroom pot

Came across this interesting restaurant in serangoon gardens which specialises in mushroom. This is the tasty special mushroom soup with many different types of fungi, meat and veges (and more mushrooms) kinda like a steamboat. Poignant since chinese new year is around the corner. Yum!

Alternative view

Sometimes, it is interesting to look at the familiar in a different way. Some think this is art, some think it is a skill, i think it is just a matter of observing one's surroundings. Like music, it can make us look at a song that we know so well at a different way.
This view of my car reminded me of GTA the computer game, and i imagined now driving my car using this top down view, going around the city doing stuff. Lol
Just wanted to remind myself not to take things for granted, and to continually look at stuff in new light. :)

Best burger money can buy

Had lunch at Iggy's and found the best burger in town. It's not just that Wagyu beef is used, but the exquisite mix of flavours.

honeymoon in Italy 1

Milan Duomo

We did manage to visit quite a few places in Italy and took quite a few pictures. There were some places where photography was not allowed so we could have taken more! This is the impressive Duomo in Milan which took ages to build, resulting in a mishmash of architecture from different periods.

Our overall impression of Italy was that it is a beautiful place, with such a rich history and strong culture (and good food!). However, there is something seriously wrong with their society when we (as tourists) have to deal with people who a) do not do their jobs (lazy); b) try not to do their jobs by pushing the buck; c) can't be bothered to do their jobs; d) unhappy with doing their jobs and take it out on you. More on this as we go on.

Merry Christmas!

We're back from our holiday! And just in time for Christmas! We bought some presents for everyone but i'm ashamed to say i forgot to buy something for Jeanie! Doh! To assuade her (and my concience), we bought her lots of treats. =)

Just wanted to wish everyone reading this a very Merry Christmas and (just in case i don't have time to write any further) a Happy New Year!

Just the two of us. Ginseng chicken and seafood pancake. Yum!

Wedding

Wibblewamble and zeenie have been busy so it's left to me to say a few words.
Woof woof aroo ruff woof! Which roughly translates to: may you both have a happy life together filled with laughter, joy and love! (and tennis balls! gotta have tennis balls!)

I hope they appreciate the effort i put in to look this good, i even had to challenge a terrier after he made some disparaging remarks at us!
