Jeanie @ Changi Village

Jeanie Changi Village
Originally uploaded by zeenie.

One of our favourite places to walk is Changi Village. A wooden walkway has been built across the shore, so you can 'walk along the beach' without getting sand in your shoes and red ants in your paw pads (happens if you go exploring). Definitely worth a visit and if you see a black and white border collie running about, do say hi!

By the way, we met some kind souls who honked at us when we turned into the Changi Village carpark to get our brekkie. Turns out they had about 40 mins left on their parking coupon so they passed it on to us. Thanks whoever you are! And who said Singaporeans were cold and unfeeling? =)

mad about words

Dear whoever's reading this,

I wish to lay a complaint against one zeenie (for doing unspeakable stuff) and wibblewamble (for encouraging him).

Something zeenie does everyday is to drop by wibblewamble's office on his way home from work each day, since he stays in the east, works in the west, and wibblewamble works (til late) in the city. Sometimes they would have dinner before he heads home, but he usually ends up waiting for her to finish up what she's doing (work never ends). This is when i get violated and abused. What I don't understand is, why does he have to spoil my nice white complexion by writing on me?!? I mean, you won't believe the crap he writes, like

"Fragrant food always tastes good
when eaten daily
amongst friends and family."

or even

"Eat food
so good
when, now?
work how?"

yes, i can tell that he gets hungry waiting for her but does he have to write such drivel on me? I mean, come on, who the hell would understand:

"Is is never about luck
just the cards that you have
use what you know and succeed."

and it just goes from cryptic:

"Fear not the unknown
bear and smile
the light will be shown."

to plain silly:

"This is a Haiku attack!
no rhyme nor reason
just short and simple phrases."

Is it too much to ask that he leaves me alone?

yours sincerely,

wibblewamble's white board

Speeling Bee

Went for dinner with zeenie last Friday at a fairly well-known Chinese restaurant, and was appalled to discover that the menu had an item called "Beancrud"! That just about ranks up there with the stuff on www.engrish.com (today's Engrish of the day is "poopularity")...

Hilarious...

Saw this hilarious video yesterday... still wondering whether the guy at the back was planted there intentionally or just happened to be there... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6739710473912337648&q=chinese&p

Movie review

We watched Transporter 2 over the weekend and it was entertaining. At least up to the point where you park your brain by the door before entering the cinema. It seemed like an extra long advert for Audi (the A8, what a gorgeous car) at times, but still enjoyable, and in defence of the storyline, he did jump into a lambo that he stole afterwards while a taxi driver he was with got the porche, quite funky seeing a yellow porche with a 'taxi' sign on it. i wonder if it has that GPS thingmajig that some taxi drivers like to fiddle with, but i digress.

I like watching Jason Statham 'cos he seems to have an earnest outlook and while his acting may be a little wooden at times, let's face it, you don't really need to have a face of a thousand expressions to act out the role. I guess I still have his role in Snatch in mind when i watched it. Incidentally, there was also another actor from a Guy Ritchie film who featured prominently. Jason Flemyng from Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels (what a great show).

Watch it, but suspend reality before doing so. =)

surreal experience

As usual, the link-master has put up a whole list of distractions for our viewing pleasure and as usual i was entertained, but more so than usual. I opened most of the links via Firefox's tabbed browsing feature and was happily listening to the Bhangar-ed Twinkle twinkle little star while laughing about people's parking and marvelling at the laser slingshot (ah, the memories of having one when i was younger, thanks dad!).

I was thinking then "Wah, quite cool ah, i never knew Bhangra can mix with Dave Grusin's Charlie Brown Theme...... wait a min, how come the Charlie Brown Theme still going on and the guy has stopped yelling singing. Turns out that the Charlie Brown's theme was being played by the laser slingshot website and was totally unrelated (until lancerlord linked them on the same page) to each other. Talk about music mixing via the internet!

dumb ass of the week II

These guys made a home video of them driving dangerously and posted it on the internet, leading them being charged by the police for dangerous driving.

Amazing.

Ever notice?

That not many blogs reported about Michelle Wie's turning pro at age 16? And none reported about the incident at the seventh hole on Saturday at the Samsung World Championship at the weekend.

From ST:
"Basically what happened was her ball landed in a bush (i can hear the jokes already about that one) at the 470 yard par 5 seventh hole on Saturday. As she could not hit the ball, she took an unplayable lie, that allowed her to drop the ball away from the bush, at the same time it is illegal to move the ball to a position closer to the hole. She used her driver to measure the maximum two club-lengths for a drop and then chipped to 15 feet to make par.

On Sunday, after receiving reporter Michael Bamberger's complaint, rules officials Jim Haley and Robert O. Smith took Wie and caddie Greg Johnston back to the seventh green.

They used string to measure the distance between the hole and the spot where Wie's ball originally was and then where she dropped it.

It was then that she was adjudged to have been guilty of an infringement because 'the ball was closer to the hole by 12 to 18 inches', according to Smith.

Regardless of Wie's claim that it was only 'three inches' closer, it was still closer, which is against the rules of golf.

If Bamberger had reported the incident before she signed her scorecard on Saturday, she would have been hit with a two-stroke penalty, giving her a seven on that hole.

But, because he reported it only on Sunday, she was disqualified for signing a scorecard with the wrong score."

So how? The reporter is pretty much in the unenviable position of damned either way whether do or don't, although in this case it's also damned for taking his time to do it. It did reek abit of prejudicial treatment, but nair mind lah, she so young. Like PAP say, got more good years ahead.

zeenie dun play golf though, too slow and expensive for him and golf courses never let his caddy in the club. Not just because she's female but also because she's his doggie, jeanie. =) She's quite proud that she's never lost a ball when he played into the rough (quite often) and often shouts 'fore' for him (not her fault that not everyone can understand). Golf courses are specie-ist! Grrrr...

I really hate this intrusive piece of crap sometimes.

MechWarriors

Came across this at Neogentronyx.com - Introducing the world's first real Mecha and it reminded me of the scene from Alien (man, was it that long ago?) as well as Dave, even though the latter one was a static version (i caught a fish this big!). =)

Hmmmm, both movies have Sigourney Weaver in it, strange coincidence. Any other instances of mechanical contrivances that you can strap on (terminator and robocop not counted ah).

censorship

Saw this from Boing Boing, who incidentally has a funny way of 'removing' material, by using a strikeout only that the link is still there!

Nice to know our tiny lil island is up there with the big nations. The words censorship and internet just cannot exist in the same sentence, let alone the same thought. Sigh.

In other news, I is back from exams (dun worry, not test of engrish), kinda drained but relieved at the same time (even though failure beckons lol), busy reading all the stuff that people have posted in the past week. One post from Jay-walk stood out though, 'cos of my current state. Had a few celebratory drinks after the exams yesterday and was pretty buzzed until i got home and then did the Merlion. LOL. I wish somebody would stop spinning the room, would like to get off now. Man, what a great night out, was introduced to the pub Insomnia at Chijmes, which had a great live band and sang myself hoarse. Anyone remember the song 'Two princes' by Spin Doctors? It really brings back the memories, i remember then CDs were just beginning to be affordable and popular. Apologies to Wibblewamble for shouting the words into her ear, but i just couldn't help myself! LOL For the rest of you who missed my yelling singing the lyrics as follows.

Two Princes

One, two, princes kneel before you
(that's what I said, now)
Princes, Princes who adore you
(Just go ahead, now)
One has diamonds in his pockets
(that's some bread, now)
This one, he wants to buy you rockets
(Ain't in his head, now)

This one, he got a princely racket
(That's what I said, now)
Got some big seal upon his jacket
(Ain't in his head, now)
Marry him, your father will condone you
(how bout that, now)
Marry me, your father will disown you
(he'll eat his hat, now)

Aww, marry him or marry me,
I'm the one that loves you baby can't you see?
Ain't got no future or a family tree,
But I know what a prince and lover ought to be,
I know what a prince and lover ought to be....

Said, if you want to call me baby
(Just go ahead, now)
An' if you want to tell me maybe
(Just go ahead, now)
If you wanna buy me flowers
(Just go ahead, now)
And if you want to talk for hours
(Just go ahead, now)

criminally insane

I was reading this article via Boing Boing:
Soldier tried fake mouth-bomb in heist
and it reminded me of a story i read once about a dumb criminal who tried to rob the Bank of America with a note written on a Wells Fargo withdrawal slip (or was it the other way round? lol), which led me to an even funnier story about a dumber criminal at the bottom of the page. Ahh, the wonders of the internet. Here's the link and God Bless Americans for providing humour.

What the heck, i shall reproduce it (the funnier one) here:

Florida: A thief burst into the bank one day wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun. Aiming his gun at the guard, the thief yelled, "FREEZE, MOTHER-STICKERS, THIS IS A F***UP!" For a moment, everyone was silent. Then the snickers started. The guard completely lost it and doubled over laughing. It probably saved his life, because he'd been about to draw his gun. He couldn't have drawn and fired before the thief got him.
The thief ran away and is still at large. In memory of the event, the bank later put a plaque on the wall engraved "Freeze, mother-stickers, this is a f***up!"

liveability survey

Vancouver tops liveability ranking according to a new survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit

Well, our sunny lil' island ain't too far off. Little crime, stable society, good trasport infrastructure, wide varieties (of food, shopping etc), low tax, random sightings of white elephants, high tech environment, what more could we ask for right? LOL

who copies the copiers?

Reading this article, Artists take stand against copy protection, i am left wondering as to whether to buy an ipod. The way i see it, the ones who suffer the most are the music artists (and the profits, lol) that the record labels are 'trying' to protect.

If you're wondering about the weird title, it's from the latin saying
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who guards the guardians?) Indeed.

warning....

The next few weeks are going to be rather hectic for me, as i'm taking my exams, so posts may be sporadic and few.

Before i hit the books (preferably with a large baseball bat "take that!"), i did come across something which made me fall out of my chair (you can go figure out why, too bleah to say anything about it lol). Dun say i didn't warn you ah!

Catch you guys around.
